Hi, as an absolute newcomer to Berlingo's, I've just purchased a 58 plate berlingo First 1.6hdi,for light haulage work,she's got 44k on with history but no handbooks,just seen a link on here for service sheets etc.. is 150k or 10 years really the advice for the timing belt ?? sorry for the question if I'm a bit daft :-)

Hi I think the general consensus is that the intervals for timing belt changes should be reduced to half the recommended time/ distance. Do the water pump too.

that would have been my next question :-) it's usually the first job I get done anyway just never come across a car with that sort of mileage between changes,thanks for the answer,at least i have time to check out the prices...Ian.

I changed mine this year after 8 years and 40k kms. Not so hard to do it yourself.
The belt and pulleys were fine but the waterpump was starting to leak a little bit.

My van has 80000-ish miles on the clock which appears genuine, it has clear signs of having done a belt bofore I got it. Other than a recent water pump and tensioner it looks to have bent several valves, taken out two injectors, a few rockers and damaged the inlet camshaft which must have cost someone a small fortune. If you are reasonably handy it is not a massive job to change a cambelt on the 1.6hdi.
