Right! Got the damn thing off, but not without breaking it into two parts which allowed me to twist each one off with a pair of long nose pliers. Now all I have to do is locate a replacement and hope ...

Not sure if this is relevant to this thread but I had a fairly long standing overheating issue in my Petrol 1.6L The problem was solved when I couldn't get it started one morning and the garage fitted...
