Modified van insurance..
#1
Any recomendations? I'm currently with Adrian Flux but theyre wanting nearly £1000 for this years renewal, seeing as I'm 30 with full NCB thats bloody daft IMO! Need a commercial policy as I use the van for work and rack up the miles..nearly 20k since I bought it!

Its not "highly modified" either, just wheels and lowered at the moment, though a remap/decat is in the plans.

Cheers all, Pete Smile

Hi Pete

I've just insured my 2002 Partner Combi HDI 90 with Elephant Insurance (went via http://www.gocompare.com), and it's the best quote I've had in ages. I'm currently 33 with 9yrs NCB and one claim in the last 5 years.
This cost me £316 to cover 10,000 miles, including 2,000 for business. On their quote page I declared the following:
- tuning box/remap for +10% BHP -- got a Synergy 1 tuning box on the fuel rail = much livelier but what else can I tweak next!
- modified exhaust -- planning for decat pipe (any tips on finding one? Looks like a cut+weld job)

I found that some mods declared in Gocompare limit your choices, but once redirected to the insurer's site you can often add details to the quote. And it seemed to be cheaper taking this route than going directly to Elephant!

Also I'm wondering if I can add the intercooler and piping from a 406 HDI 110 but not sure about fittings or how the Siemens ECU will behave.

Good luck with the search!

I'll give them a try mate, cheers.

PS: I assume a 306 HDI decat will fit as the engines are the same? The bulkheads are probably different though come to think of it? Someone on here will know for sure!

Hey, guess what? I bought one of these £42 decat pipes and it's the wrong one...

Next time I'll have a better look under the van before I buy anything!

For Nov.2002 onwards (on mine at least) I believe it should match the shape of one of these long chaps:

Note the front end has a flexible section followed by a pair of support prongs.

So the cheaper option for a decat looks like a custom cut and weld job for a local fitter. I've heard of some places accepting the old cat for scrap and pretty much covering the bill that way, but quite costly to replace if MOT rules were to start demanding cats to be present on diesels.
