I believe one thing to take into consideration is the type of fuel pump fitted. Some apparently cannot cope with veg oil. Should be some info on line somewhere. Try a Google on it.

Yup, XTR Hdi 110 with 50,000 plus miles and my journey to work involves motorway at an average 60mph. I get just around 50mpg.

Positive from battery to positive on the dead car battery and negative from the battery to an earth point on the tow car. Did you do it this way?
